Last October, on occasion of an initiative of ours, whose name is “Beviamolo Strano”, i.e. “Let’s drink it strangely”, our friend Fabio Ingrosso came to our winery with a friend of his, a Dutch traveller who loved to learn about new places and new food and wines. In the end of his journey through our land, he wrote a review, “A culinary road-trip through Salento”, a sort of travel diary describing the places he visited and the food he tasted. Our winery was one of these places. Here’s what he wrote about us:
“I left the city by car and went to meet Fabio Ingrosso in his hometown Guagnano. We met on the main square and had a cold cup of coffee with almond-milk (cafe ghiaccio con latte di mandorla). This coffee is a specialty from Puglia and very refreshing on a hot summer day. I immediately felt in love with it and promised myself to take some liters of this milk back to Holland. The winery we wanted to visit was closed, so we went to the smaller wine company Feudi di Guagnano. They had plenty of time for us and were very hospitable. We sat down at a wine-barrel, tasted 3 great wines and some delicious local pecorino. The Salice Salentino 2002 was the best wine I tasted during this few day’s in Salento. It’s a full bodied red wine with lots of red fruit and a bit of almond. Passion in a glass! As a kind of experiment, we tasted some just pressed grape-must. Nice to have tried it once, but not to be done a second time! Grape-must is good for wine and Aceto Balsamico and nothing else!”
